This sound recording was made at an artificial waterfall in the small river Berkel in the east of the Netherlands near Warnsveld (next to the weir called ‘Warken’). The microphones are placed 1.5 meters apart, a distance that has become so meaningful these days.
The recording offers a way to enjoy and embrace this space. The sound is very soothing and relaxing.
At the end of the recording, a father with three children arrives. It’s March 25, 2020: the schools have just closed, because of the Corona crises. They need to be occupied, and the artificial waterfall is a great place to play. You can barely hear it, but the father warns his kids: they have to keep their distance from other people.
