As part of “Dutch, More or Less
Van 1 juni 2024 tot 31 mei 2026″

Dutch, More or Less. Contemporary Architecture, Design and Digital Culture is a presentation of more than 30 years of Dutch design. Rather than retelling the history of Dutch design, it brings together the ideas, themes and projects that have placed Dutch designers at the forefront of international design. But how do they differ from other designers? And how has the image of “more or less Dutch” design evolved?

Spaces, objects and designed interactions reflect the developments of their time. Phenomena such as globalisation, climate change and an increasingly interconnected world are reflected in the works on display. Political decisions and national branding have also left their mark on the meaning of “Dutchness” in Dutch design.

Architects, designers and digital makers also have their own interpretations. Icons from the 1990s, from architecture firms such as Rem Koolhaas’s OMA, industrial designers such as Hella Jongerius and digital initiatives such as the original social media platform the Digitale Stad [Digital City], and AmsterdamREALTIME are juxtaposed with projects from the following decades. New approaches, ideas and questions ensure that the disciplines overlap and interact. Young designers are invited to take a look at the future of (Dutch?) design.
