The bell rings, the music starts. A merry-go-round starts to move and we’re in it. It takes us on a bumpy rotating ride on a december morning. A view of a cheerful but ominous landscape unfolds.
This short film with the title ‘The Fortune’ (‘Geluk zoeken doe je maar op het Malieveld’ in Dutch) is specially made for the call by artist and curator Quinsy Gario for the OneMinutes.org with the theme ‘public justice’.
The film is staged on the Malieveld, The Hague, The Netherlands. A place known for and dedicated to democratic protesting against/for social topics concerning. It is also a place where a fair takes place a few weeks a year.
An important inspiration for this specific film is an article by Kiza Magendane published in the daily newspaper NRC on december 2nd 2017 called ‘‘Ons geweten mag niet stoppen bij de grens’ (‘Our conscience should not come to a halt at the border’).
With this film we continue our tradition of film making in Google Earth.
