“It came to me one day that I needed to return to the island. This time with me as his passenger.
I would return, get in the car, and retrace the route, nothing more.
We might stop at the spot as if it were a portal.”
The Ride takes you to an island. Two people return together to a life-defining event that has once touched them deeply. For the first time, autobiographical elements form the basis of our work.
In January and February 2019, the film has been shown in the Sint Sebastiaanskapel in the Oude Kerk Amsterdam. The architecture of the Oude Kerk plays in the background and performs an extra dimension.
After the screening, the audience was invited to wander through the dark church for a moment of reflection with a hot cup of tea.
For the cinematic expression, we used a sound recording in combination with a recorded route. What you see are Google Earth satellite images that determine the contours of space combined with surround sound. The effect is a pronounced spatial narrative experience.
